A response to industry
changes resulting
from worldwide and Homeland Security |
DeWitt Companies
Ltd., a San Diego-based International Forwarder of household goods,
personal effects and automobiles worldwide, has announced the
appointment of Patrick Meddleton as International Transportation
Manager.
Pat Meyer, DEWITT Executive Vice-President, says, "Patrick Meddleton
comes to DeWitt Companies Ltd. with over 20 years of experience in
transportation and International forwarding. We are very pleased to
have him involved because, among other reasons, our growing customer
list will continue to receive our "Golden Rule" service approach."
Pat Meyer added, "To us the little things make the biggest difference
and we appreciate the customer by providing constant "hands-on"
service. The firm's historical roots actually go back over 75 years
and a company doesn't survive that long without doing things "just
right". And now with the addition of Patrick Meddleton in the midst of
our current expansion we feel secure that our customers will realize
even better commitment to quality."
We asked Pat Meyer about the expansion in the midst of a turbulent
economy. "This move is a part of our plan for the future. For example,
I was at the recent convention of the American Moving & Storage
Association, and while there I had the opportunity to listen to, meet
and talk with the head of FIDI, the prestigious international
association.
Ernst Jorg, President of FIDI, and of his Swiss-based company,
Packimpex. Mr. Jorg said, in part: "... Today are faced with many
changes and we realize that household goods are now regarded to be a
high-security risk commodity. Why? Because of the "changing ownership"
of the goods due to different loading addresses, subcontracting, temp
staff and more. There are more physical inspections of the cargo
resulting in increased cost and damages. For instance: there very well
could be bottles (are they poison?); electrical appliances (timers?);
sporting equipment (weapons?); and many odd articles. Movers will have
to adapt. Advanced information needs to be given to forwarders and
shipping lines. PBOs should be avoided. Packing lists must be legible
and descriptive. Customs authorities are currently working with
carriers, port agents and other involved parties in the US."
Pat Meyer concluded, "Now, more than ever, experienced staff will help
facilitate the process of relocation for the benefit of customers."
Patrick lives in Escondido, California with his wife and two
daughters.
